12 Tips to Maintain and not Gain

TIP 12:

Fill up over the coming weeks on healthy food so you have loads of nutrients in supply to deal with all the upcoming "badness" (good tasting "badness" though!). If you have a party in the evening, make yourself a healthy breakfast and a lunch full of greens and lean protein and drink a ton of water throughout the day!

This season give yourself the present of “MORE”:

  • More veggies

  • More water

  • More protein

  • More healthy meals

TIP 11:

Indulge in different ways.

We often feel that we can let loose at parties - like it is a reward for all the hard work we have done throughout the year, but this year why don't you take another decadent route. Get a massage or a pedicure. Better yet buy yourself a sexy outfit that you couldn’t wear if you still ate like you used to at a party.

TIP 10:

Eat BEFORE you go out!
Don’t starve yourself all day knowing there is a massive buffet waiting for you that evening. By eating a healthy meal before, you aren’t starving upon arrival and hovering at the snack table all night. You also can be confident in eating well which allows you to make controlled choices throughout the night. Balance is our friend!

TIP 9:

If you are going to a resturant, check the menu before you go! All too often, we get caught up in what other people are ordering, and talking too much – which ends up in making rushed or bad decisions. Stay on top of your meals by making the healthier choice and stick to your decision. Then there might be room for dessert!

TIP 8:

Avoid the less "thrilling" stuff. Chose which “bad” things you eat. The impulse is to put a little of everything on your plate, but do you really like Aunt Hilda’s creamed onions? And the bread? Come on! It’s just bread! Flour and water! Why miss eating all those once-a-year treats by eating bread?

TIP 7:

Eat slooooowly! Don't rush your meal, savour all the scrumptious delicacies. Christmas comes but once a year my friends. Eat and chew consciously. If you are going to eat treats, make it count.

TIP 6:

Moderation is the key.
Of course, you’ll want to eat a serving of Uncle Bob’s candied carrots, but A (small) serving is all you need. Savor that instead of shoveling a mountain’s worth in your mouth.

TIP 5:

Ask your host or bartender for a glass of warm water (with lemon if possible) immediately BEFORE devouring the feast before you. This trick will fill you up and will discourage “your eyes to be bigger than your stomach"!

TIP 4:

Exercise! Don't let the hustle and bustle of the season stop you from getting your workouts in. Stick to your schedule and get those workouts in. The more activity you can fit in over the holidays, the better and if you do decide to indulge oneday, you will have earned your drinks and treats.

TIP 3:

You don't need to finish everything on your plate. We all know that "too full" feeling leads us to feeling bloated and yucky. Instead leave the table satisfied and hit the dance floor!

TIP 2:

Wait for dessert. The body takes about 30 minutes to figure out it’s full, so take a breather (and a glass of water) before dessert. If you’re feeling full when you hit Grandpa Saul’s honey cake, you’ll be less inclined to eat too much.

TIP 1:

On Christmas day, If you blow it, you blow it.
If, despite all this great advice, you might still make a pig of yourself. Oh, well. It happens. Don’t torture yourself or starve yourself or try to do all of the T25 workouts to make up for it. It won’t work. The body doesn’t work well when you try to overcompensate. It just leads to malnutrition and overtraining. Like I said, Christmas Day only happens once a year, and hopefully you followed the above advise for the 12 days piror and now you have another 364 to make up for it with moderation.
